Bayazid Akter is a documentary photographer and photojournalist who was born in Sirajgonj, Bangladesh in 1969. He obtained his B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in History from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Bayazid began taking photographs in 1987 when he was a 1st year student at a time when the campus was unstable due to campus violence. He finished his diploma in photography from Begart Institute of photography, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1995. He has worked several times as a Dhaka University reporter in National Daily papers such as ‘The daily Navo Ovijhan’ and ‘Dainik Dinkal’ and began his job as a photojournalist of ‘Dainik Janakantha’, the national daily in 1994. He has also worked as a photo journalist for various other News Agencies and international magazines. Bayazid was commissioned as a photographer for ‘Banglapedia’, a national Bangladeshi encyclopedia.
He is a member of the International Industrial Photographers Association, IIPA and freelance as a photojournalist / photographer.
Bayazid Akter’s Noteworthy Photographic Achievements:
•He has held five Solo photography exhibitions in prestigious galleries in Dhaka such as 'Unity and Diversity' © in 2000.
•He has exhibited in many group photography exhibitions in national & international forums.
•In 1996 he was awarded the 1st Prize & honorable mention in the color Photo contest for the External Publicity wing of the Ministry of Information, Government of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh “on the scenic beauty of Bangladesh, it’s People, Art-Culture, Customs-traditions, Everyday life, Archaeological sites, tourist spots and places of Interests”
•In 1993 & 1996 he had an Honorable mention in Bangladesh Photographic Society Annual Photo contest, color section.
•He was nominated and selected Judge of the International iPhotoContest in 2004 and is now a Member and on the Advisory Board of iPhotoContests.
