Abu Ala, was born in a village in Mymensingh district, north of Dhaka. An M.A. in Anthropology, he is a self-taught freelance photographer who is also involved in social research, writing, and the human rights movement. He has been working with a leading human rights organization in Bangladesh and has contributed as a writer in the first Bengali encyclopedia on gender issues as well as in the history of liberation war.
Abu Ala specializes in documentary photography with particular interest in culture, politics, human rights, environment and development. He likes to approach the subject matter critically, as influenced by his academic background.
