Shahadat Parvez was born in 1978 in the Munshiganj district, some 28 kilometers from the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka. He always possessed a strong flair for writing and reporting since childhood and began working in the field of journalism in 1991 after realizing that for him, photography was a true medium for free expression.
Thus his journey with the camera began and in the course of time he secured the job of deputy chief photojournalist at the Prothom Alo, a leading Bangla newspaper, at the age of just 26. He also holds an advanced diploma from Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography. Parvez feels free in photojournalism and documentary photography and likes to work with socially ignored, deprived, oppressed and peripheral communities. He is interested in working with children, irrespective of class, cast and creed.
Shahadat Parvez’s Noteworthy Photographic Achievements:
•He has contributed to many international and national newspapers, magazines and periodicals
•He won top gold prize in the second Asia Press Photo Contest (APPC) in 2007.
•He won a gold medal in the 66th International Photographic Salon of Japan (Asahi Shimbun Award 2006)
•He won three merit awards in the First Asia Press Press Photo Contest (APPC) in 2006.
